Stormy Night

Stormy Night

Erin Sapp
Spring 2019

A fragrant hush of pine and stone
Crisp, wiped clean, made new
Cool dark bellies curl above
Swirling, stirred by no hands
We can see.
Dark wood fades still darker
Green spears and blossoms dip low
The mirror swells, crests, reaches.
Her hands shape new shores
Her cool silver skin grows muddy.
Bright blinks past black
Tongues of long spider limbs,
Casting witch shadows.
Shining leaves lie flat, a mirage.
Dance across each bright spot
Cold and quick
Then held close, listen
In the safe, warm dark.
Cascading, shining pearls
Falling from heaven
Crescendo
In good nights
And pleasant dreams.
